In principle, the fonds of the Federal Archives are open to the public. Most services are available online, but analogue documents can only be consulted free of charge in the reading rooms. Separate provisions apply to the administration.
The conditions of use apply to documents from the Federal Archives generally. If the documents concerned are still subject to a closure period, it is not possible to order them directly. In such cases, a request to consult records is required.
Special ordering conditions apply to the administration.
As a rule, analogue documents from the Federal Archives can only be consulted in the reading rooms. However, digital reproductions of most dossiers can be ordered directly online, subject to a fee. It is therefore no longer absolutely necessary to visit the Federal Archives in person.
