Digitised documents

Scanning Landscape

As part of preparations for online access, the Federal Archives have moved to a new digitisation infrastructure. You can now submit digitisation orders as a pilot user. However, customers may normally also photograph archive records themselves.

Ordering digitised documents as a pilot user

The Federal Archives are currently setting up the new online access service. For this reason, digitisation orders can no longer be submitted via Swiss Archives. However, you can register as a pilot user of the online access service and order digitised documents that way. To do so, please send an e-mail to bundesarchiv@bar.admin.ch quoting “Online access pilot user: digitisation” in the subject line. Digitisation is free of charge but is limited to one dossier per day. We apologise for any delivery delays during pilot operation.

Making your own digitised documents

Customers may normally also photograph archive records themselves in the reading room. However, it is not possible to make paper copies on site. The use of scanners is not permitted. Equipment for making copies of other media (e.g. film) is in some cases available in the reading room. For further information, please contact a member of reading room staff.
