Information Preservation Division (IPD)

The division ensures that information is preserved securely and in full. It is the contact partner for clients in the Federal Administration and the public domain in the areas of information management and archiving and provides advice and support throughout the whole records lifecycle. The division also runs training courses in electronic records and process management (GEVER) and digital archiving.

The Information Preservation Division (IPD) is organised into two services with the following tasks:

Appraisal and Information Management Services (AIM)

  • Supports and advises the Federal Administration in implementing and optimising use of electronic records and process management (GEVER); creates the classification systems and organisation requirements
  • Supports and advises the Federal Administration in planning the transfer of documents to the Federal Archives
  • Assesses which documents should be archived
  • Creates the structures, aids and standards for electronic records and process management and appraisal

Archival Custody and Solutions Services (ACS)

  • Accepts and safeguards documents to be archived (digital and analog archive records)
  • Develops new archival solutions for digital documents (aids, tools, standards and specifications)
  • Ensures the proper conservation and upkeep of archive records
  • Supports and advises clients on transferring and archiving documents
